The forests and mountains we drove through on the way to the bog were spectacular for a boy like me who has spent his entire life in Florida. This stump was huge - I'd say maybe 15' high and who knows how wide around.

The forests were gorgeous. All these tall pines and stumps of redwood or some kind of really huge tree here and there. The light was mostly green from filtering through hundreds of feet of trees.

This was the first clump of Darlingtonia that we came across. This was an exciting moment for me!

A nice closeup shot of one of the Darlingtonia hoods. You can clearly see the semi-transparent spots on the hood that (supposedly?) confuse any insects unlucky engough to have wound up inside. (Yes, the I held the camera tilted, the plant is not growing on the side of a hill. :)

Can you spot all the Drosera binata growing in this picture? If not, look at the next one for some hints. They were almost literally everywhere in this spot.

See 'em now? Go back and look at the previous picture; what looks like grass is mostly D.binata.
